Running a successful work at home business is the dream for thousands of people today. Whether you want to spend more time with the kids, make a few bucks while you’re home anyway, fire your boss, or simply stop wasting time in the daily commute, an MLM internet business can be the top work at home plan.

But did you know that the failure rate for any other type of home business is just as high?

It’s not MLM that is the problem. The problem is that it is hard setting up any kind of home business. And the main problem that most people have can be summed up in one word:

Focus.

Distractions, interruptions, boredom, spending too much time on unproductive tasks … working from home with no boss hanging over us, we all suffer from some if not all of these issues. They all lead to time wasting and lack of focus, and that means, less money coming in.

The worst thing we can do is constantly switch from one task to another during the day. Every time we change our focus to a new task, we spend time getting into the ‘zone’ of the new task. Recent research claims that it can take as long as 20 minutes to get fully into the zone of whatever we are doing. Only then are we really focused on the task and able to work most effectively.

Sure, have frequent breaks. Take 10 minutes to stretch, relax, fetch a glass of water. But do not switch on the TV or make a non-business call that is likely to stop you getting back to work. Take a pen so you can write down ideas that arrive during your break.

Set your working hours and stick to them, without interruptions or distractions. Give all your attention to your top priority for the day, and do not begin any other work until it is finished. Or for longer projects, set aside a certain number of hours each day for that task, and catch up with your email, calls etc in the rest of the time. But whatever else you do, hang on to your focus through all of your work time.
